KEPCO / KHNP
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power
KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) and KHNP (Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power) are South Korean firms leading PWR exports and operations. KHNP builds and operates APR1400 reactors.
KEPCO, Korea's primary utility, oversees 24 operating reactors totaling 23 GWe capacity. KHNP, its nuclear subsidiary, designed the 1,400 MWe APR1400 with passive safety features, certified by EU and Canada. It constructed four units at Barakah, UAE, with first grid connection in 2020. KHNP pursues Czech Republic deals for up to six APR1400s and advances SMART SMR. Both address HALEU via domestic enrichment plans.
Why it matters now
KEPCO/KHNP enable 2025-2026 export growth with APR1400 bids in Eastern Europe and SMR licensing, supporting global capacity additions for data centers amid HALEU bottlenecks.
