AP300
Small modular reactor (SMR) variant of the AP1000 PWR by Westinghouse, rated at 300 MWe with simplified design for factory fabrication.
The AP300 retains AP1000 passive safety features but scales down to 300 MWe gross power using a single loop system. It supports 24-month refueling and aims for FOAK deployment by late 2020s. Pre-licensing discussions with UK regulators began in 2023.
Why it matters now
As SMR licensing accelerates in 2025-2026, AP300 targets data center PPAs and industrial loads, leveraging AP1000 certification to reduce regulatory hurdles.
